An Overview Of Dermal Fillers With Virginia
Oral, Facial & Implant Surgery

When you visit Virginia Advanced Surgical Arts for the first time, you will have the opportunity to speak at length about your concerns and the changes you would like to make. If you are a good candidate for dermal fillers, we’ll then discuss the various products and injection sites for treatment.

Most of our patients receive dermal fillers on the same day as their consultation. Typically, icing the area before treatment provides a comfortable experience, but we can also offer a local anesthetic.

The filler is then injected in the targeted areas that should provide natural-looking, subtle, and attractive results. The effects should be immediate.

You can return to normal daily activities right after your treatment. We might recommend you wait about 24 hours before participating in rigorous exercise. Any residual swelling should be gone within a day.

The duration of your improvement will depend on your individual metabolism as well as the amount and types of dermal fillers you have received. When you are ready for a touch-up, feel free to schedule a follow-up at Virginia Advanced Surgical Arts.

Why Dermal Fillers And Why Our Practice?

Dermal fillers are injectable solutions that can treat a range of aesthetic concerns. Some of the most common include:

Loss of fullness in the midface and cheeks

Fine lines and wrinkles around the nose and mouth

Lips that appear flatter, thinner, or less pouty than patients’ desire

Virginia Advanced Surgical Arts uses the full line of JUVÉDERM products to help patients achieve their aesthetic goals. These products make use of a modified form of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance in the skin that promotes softness and fullness.

JUVÉDERM has formulated its products for different areas of need, with each offering a different duration of effect and consistency. This ensures that dermal fillers for your lips feel like your natural lip tissue, that added volume in the cheeks matches their natural fullness, and so on.

Patients choose our practice for their care in part because our oral and maxillofacial surgeons conduct all injectable treatments. This is different from many other providers, where a patient might receive treatment from a technician or a nurse.

Options With Dermal Fillers

Virginia Advanced Surgical Arts offers patients a variety of med spa treatments, including:

Ultra XC and Ultra Plus XC

Ultra XC adds natural-looking fullness and projection to the lips and to treat lines and wrinkles around the mouth. Whether you have always wanted a more noticeable pout, or your lips have become less defined over time, treatment can help you get the look you want.

The Ultra Plus XC formulation can reduce the appearance of wrinkles and folds around the nose and mouth. The product adds fullness to these sites for up to about a year, creating a smoother, more youthful aesthetic.

VOLBELLA

Like with other dermal fillers such as Ultra XC, VOLBELLA gives the lips soft and subtle fullness and reduce the appearance of vertical lip lines. The effects of VOLBELLA typically last up to one year.

VOLBELLA, like its sister products VOLLURE and VOLUMA, is formulated with VYCROSS. This technology allows the Allergan company to tailor dermal fillers of different thicknesses and consistencies and to offer patients long-lasting results.

VOLLURE™

Over time, you may notice wrinkles deepening around your nose and mouth. In particular, the nasolabial folds — lines running from the nose to the corners of your lips — may appear more prominent, aging your features. These lines may become visible even when you are not actively smiling or using your facial muscles.

Our cosmetic surgeons can treat patients with VOLLURE to fill in wrinkles and rejuvenate the area around the nose and lips. Results are subtle and long-lasting, with an effect of up to 18 months.

VOLUMA

When you picture the features of a youthful face, you likely think of someone who has full, high, well-defined cheeks. Our practice offers dermal fillers as a way of restoring this aesthetic to patients who have experienced the loss of volume or whose cheeks have begun to sag and flatten. .

By injecting the mid-face and cheeks with VOLUMA, we can return your features to their younger, higher state. The effects of VOLUMA can last up to two years, after which time you can return for retreatment. You may require less VOLUMA in subsequent visits to maintain the improvement they received originally

Dermal Fillers Frequently Asked Questions

Dermal fillers are an excellent tool to provide plumpness and fullness to faces that have lost volume over time. They can be used in nearly every part of the face to provide patients with the age-reducing results they desire. We can use dermal fillers in the:

Cheeks to reduce the appearance of sunken skin.

Lips to provide natural plumpness and smooth out wrinkles.

Mouth and nasolabial folds to reduce the appearance of lines and creases.

Each of these areas requires a specific type of dermal filler, so if you’re interested, you’ll need to schedule a consultation.

Since dermal fillers are injected directly into the skin, most patients will see immediate changes after their procedure. However, these changes might not be the results, as the fillers often need time to settle.

There will usually also be some initial swelling as the body gets used to the fillers, which can mask the appearance of results. Most patients can expect to see their results about two weeks after the initial injection, though this will vary from person to person. We’ll be able to give you a customized answer during your consultation.

How long dermal fillers last depends on the type of product being used. We proudly use the full line of Juvéderm products on his patients, which are top-of-the-line fillers on the market that produce some of the longest-lasting results. Here is a comparison of the projected longevity of each of Juvéderm’s most popular fillers:

Ultra XC/Ultra Plus XC – can last up to a year

Volbella – can last up to a year

Vollure – can last up to 18 months

Voluma – can last up to two years

Of course, results will vary for each patient, but our facial cosmetic surgeons can provide tips for helping results last longer.

Each dermal filler has a slightly different purpose, which can make it hard to choose between them. During your consultation, we will examine your face, medical history, and ask about what you would like to achieve. After this conversation, we make a personalized recommendation that is perfectly suited to your needs.

Dermal fillers are a very minor procedure, so there really is no recovery time afterward. In fact, because the procedure is so minimal, it’s often administered right after a patient’s initial consultation. Patients can get back to their normal routine right away. That being said, patients may want to avoid intense exercise for the first couple of days after the injections, as this can lead to bruising or swelling. Patients may experience some slight soreness at the site, but this can usually be controlled with over-the-counter pain medication.

What Our Patients Say

“I felt welcomed and valued from the second I walked in the door to the moment I left. Every person I interacted with- from the front desk staff, to the surgical assistants, and even the doctor himself- was kind, informative, and helpful. I had my wisdom teeth removed on Friday and was back to work with only a mild and easily manageable headache on Monday. They gave clear instructions on how to prevent infection and dry socket, and even called to check up on me the day of and week after my procedure! I strongly recommend this office to anyone who is searching for the services they offer.

“Everyone was super nice, friendly, and courteous. The office is clean and modern. Everyone was professional and seemed pretty organized. I got to watch Netflix laying down while I waited as well. The staff was nice enough to even switch it to a show I recommended!! Also, there are snacks and drinks available for your drivers waiting on you. As someone who is wary of going to the dentist, it was a great experience and I’d recommend this place! Cute valentines day decorations when I was there too!”
