April is National Oral Cancer Awareness Month!
The awareness of oral cancer among the American public is relatively low. According to the Oral Cancer Foundation, approximately 48, 250 people in the United States will be newly diagnosed with oral cancer just this year! Oral and oropharyngeal cancer (cancer of the mouth and upper throat) collectively kills nearly one person every hour of every day of every year. The death rate of oral cancer is relatively high due mainly to the cancer being routinely discovered late in its development.
How to get involved in National Oral Cancer Awareness Month:

  1. Schedule a screening with your Northern Virginia area dentist today! Contact your primary dentist as soon as possible to schedule a screening for oral cancer!
  2. SPREAD THE WORD! The more awareness created around this disease, the better the chance individuals have of catching it early in its development and getting the initial treatment they need!
